In accordance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Individual Permit regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP), the Township is required to develop and implement a stormwater management program. The program is based on the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) protocol developed by PADEP. The PADEP protocols provide the Township with guidelines to design a local program that addressed PADEP's six Minimum Control Measures (MCMs). These six MCMs are designed to reduce the discharge of pollutants from MS4s, to the maximum extent practicable, to protect water quality and to satisfy the appropriate requirements of the Federal Clean Water Act. The six MCM categories are:
- Public Education and Outreach
- Public Involvement and Participation
- Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
- Construction Site Stormwater Runoff
- Post Construction Stormwater Management in New Development and Redevelopment
- Pollution Prevention and Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations and Maintenance
